Melissa Forsyth
Legal Assitant
I am a Legal Assistant with nearly 20 years of experience supporting individuals in complex family law matters, including domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and high-risk cases. My work is grounded in trauma-informed practice and focused on helping clients navigate challenging situations where safety, stability, and clear legal guidance are essential.
My background includes direct criminal and family law experience, as well as extensive work in family court proceedings, protection orders, custody disputes, and high-conflict matters shaped by patterns of power and control. I have also facilitated offender education programs, which has deepened my understanding of behavioral patterns and accountability dynamics in adversarial cases.
At Maes Law, I support attorneys and clients through high-stakes, emotionally charged cases with steadiness and precision. I manage complex documentation, anticipate challenges, and help clients remain informed throughout the legal process.
I am currently pursuing an Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies and a Certificate in American Sign Language to strengthen my legal expertise and expand accessibility in the communities we serve.

I am a Mankato native, a parent of three, including two children on the autism spectrum, and a partner to a military veteran. My lived experience navigating educational, medical, and legal systems shapes the way I advocate—with clarity, steadiness, and a deep understanding of what families need when the stakes are high.
